The crowds enthusiastically welcome the king on Palm Sunday. They shout “hosanna, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.” Their voices will give way to louder shouts in coming days of “crucify him”. Jesus enters Jerusalem as the king who comes in the name of the Lord to save. His saving mission is to go to the cross in place of us who betray him, who shout crucify when it is us who deserve the death he dies in love for us. This is the king who humbles himself to be obedient even unto death…death on a cross. And he calls and equips us who are saved by him to serve others by our humble lives of faithful living too.
