In today’s gospel reading a group of religious leaders and power brokers try to trick Jesus into saying something that will discredit him. They fail miserably in what is the last attempt to deceive Jesus into saying something incriminating before they and others will just make things up and Jesus will be sentenced to death. The Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection of the dead. They talk about marriage in heaven and when we hear Jesus’ response today we may feel disappointed that there will be no marriage in heaven. But God has a perfect love and a perfect life and perfect relationships waiting for us. Death hurts but its sting is impotent thanks to the victory of Christ over death.
