Angels are out of fashion in our scientific, rational thinking. They are nonetheless real, though (as always) only occasionally experienced. They are not cute, but formidable warriors; and they are not all good. What God's angels do is to praise, preach, and protect. [Thomas Place - Pentecost 15]

In proclaiming God's love for foreigners, the Scriptures encourage us not so much to talk about asylum seekers, but to talk to them, and to welcome them in to our homes. We cannot turn them back from our personal lives, because God has not turned us back from His personal life. For all Christians have no permanent residence, and are pursuing our own citizenship claim in the city that is to come, guaranteed by Christ. [Thomas Place - Pentecost 10]

Thomas Place asks the big questions, and this month it's all about marriage. In society, it's in something of a decline; and those who do marry generally agree that they marry for love. And they also unmarry when the love fades. Does God have anything to say about the kinds of love that should power a marriage? [Thomas Place - Pentecost 6]

Our Thomas Place series tackles big questions; so what does it mean for us when Jesus says we cannot serve 'money'? Should we be selling all we have, and giving to the poor? What does this mean for Christians in wealthy countries? [Thomas Place - Pentencost 2]

I've never heard God's voice in my heart or mind, and I don't feel very transformed for much of the time. What does this say about my faith? Why doesn't God speak to me? [Thomas Place - Easter 5]

Our Thomas Place services always tackle big topics, and this one was the Bible itself. How was the Bible put together? Can we trust that it's God Word and not a human document with mistakes? [Thomas Place - Lent 2]

We are living into a time where ecological issues will dominate our lives, not just personally but globally. We live on one planet which has finite resources, and human beings are going have to work out what it means to live a sustainable life. And individual Christians, and the church, are part of this, in part because a misreading of our tradition has contributed to this problem, but mostly because a core component of Christian teaching is that “God has created me and all that exists.” [Instrumental - Thomas Place]

When struck by personal tragedy, or facing fears about our world, hope can seem difficult. We may feel guilty, beyond hope. Or despondent, fearing that God doesn't hear our problems. Or fatalistic, thinking nothing we do makes any difference. But hope is not in the absence of bad things. It is found through discovering that God suffers with us, and will redeem all things. [ Thomas Place - Advent 2 ]
