Knitting for AIDS babies, orphans and vulnerable children of the world

Firstly, thank you to St Paul’s knitters and to those who donate wool and money towards this worthwhile project. As you read this, another AIDS baby is being born: the need for our knitting is a never-ending one.

knitting logo We are now supplying more African countries: in addition to Malawi and South Africa, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Zambia receive shipments of jumpers and comfort dolls. An Australian traveller recently took 400 jumpers to Ethiopia. Closer to home are the chilly mountain areas of East Timor where we recently sent 10,000 jumpers plus hundreds of dolls, beanies and bootees. As you see, our service has broadened to include many other vulnerable children, including residents of Eastern Europe where 20,000 jumpers were sent through the Mission Without Borders organisation. In all, 90,000 jumpers have been sent overseas. Who would have thought when this project started less than a year ago, that the response would be so wonderful?

One St Paul’s member put my original Inside Story article and pattern on her work noticeboard. That simple action has led to at least 250 jumpers being sent and enthusiastic knitters still going strong!

Thank you everyone and please keep the goodies coming!

We have been asked to make longer sleeves on the original jumper pattern. Please see the revised patterns provided below.

Using 8 ply knitting yarn (acrylic yarn can be used) and 4.5 needles; lots of bright colours and stripes; any colour can be used.

Please leave your contributions in the St Paul’s office for collection by Elizabeth Stevenson.
