Screwtape Proposes A Toast, C.S. Lewis

Written some years after the original Letters, Lewis here provides not a letter but rather a short address from Screwtape. As a guest of honor at the annual dinner of the Tempters' Training College, Screwtape speaks to the new graduates about, amongst other things, a little history, the distortion of language and in turn truth, the idea and the meaning of "Democracy" and how it beckons one to the sinful realm of pride and envy. Unlike the letters, this speech addresses the strategy of attacking a society rather than an individual, arguably particularly for the treatment of the younger minds.

This is a finely written addition to the original Letters which is included in some editions of The Screwtape Letters.
