A first analysis
The Vision 2012 taskforce is sifting out our top priorities.
What’s Vision 2012? You’ve seen the title, and heard the words bandied around the place, and perhaps even read a little about it in Inside Story. But what is it all about? What has it been doing? And why should it concern you?
Vision 2012 is a taskforce appointed by the Church Council to re-focus this congregation on its purpose and vision, and 269 of you were part of this process when you filled out the questionnaire at one of the February 4 services this year. What a great response! Thank you for your time and thoughtful input.
Work in progress on grouping similar values into summary statements, with supporting explanation and a quick illustration. It’s refreshing that so many of the pix showed us collected around the Cross.
A small representative group from the congregation learnt much more about the work of the taskforce at a Saturday workshop last weekend (February 24), and you will soon have an opportunity to join the discussions again as well.
Some of about 20 attendees labour away on the butcher’s paper.
The task force (Geoff Miller, Mark Hughes, Ronda Held and Angela Walkenhorst) have buried their heads in the mountain of data gathered in the survey, and have begun compiling results. Some of this will be published soon, so that you can see what we as a faith community feel about this special place, and where our challenges may be for the future.
The chart of most popular choices of current values, with age groups shown as colours within each bar, puts preaching and teaching way ahead.
Overwhelmingly, the data shows that, in terms of our core values, we are a strong and homogenous community, and this we can trust confidently is God’s action in this place.
The analysis of free text responses suggests that the main things that keep us coming here are the relationships we have with other people here. So, no real surprises there, hey? The Saturday workshop, over four hours in classrooms at Luther College, was a place where the data was sifted into a format suitable for discussion in various forums — probably some small groups, other groups who meet regularly, and anybody else who wishes to be part of this process. Watch for further opportunities to be involved, and feel free at any time to contact anyone on the Task Force or our Chairman, David Paech.
It’s an exciting time to be part of this congregation.
