The Pilgrim's Regress, C.S. Lewis

What Lewis had described as "An allegorical apology for Christianity, Reason and Romanticism" is a dream-narrative telling of an individual named John's journey of religious conversion. The innate Desire (and the mysterious unattainability of its object) in all of us is what propels John in his search for joy and satisfaction. In his pilgrimage, John encounters and interacts with personifications of Enlightenment, Reason, Contemplation, Sensible, Wisdom and History amongst others before finally arriving at Christianity. A heavily illustrative and charming allegory indeed.
