An edifying thought from Yale reductionist, I mean psychologist Paul Bloom:
Maybe it's just me or maybe it's that Yale thing, but if our mental abilities and processes are "purely corporeal" and are (only) the result of "biochemical processes in the brain", then doesn't it follow that all thoughts - including the thought 'thoughts are purely corporeal and are a result of biochemical processes in the brain' - are only the consequence of cerebral biochemical processes? If so, then how do we even know that is the truth? What's the point of thinking or doing anything then? But then again, if a psychologist thinks so, then it must be the truth. It's all clear now. |
