Consistent to the recent legislatives changes on the availability of IVF, the "Victorian Law Reform Commission recommended that gay couples be permitted to adopt children, as part of its major report on assisted reproductive technology". Looks like Reggie might not be so unreal after all. In the meantime, a report "commissioned by the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare identified same-sex couples as one group that could be targeted to become foster carers, and recommended advertising in the gay press". According to the centre's president, Mr Kevin Zibell:
Hang on, I am lost. Maybe it's just me but I thought one's "personal circumstances" have an effect on one's "capacity to care for a child". And what exactly does it mean to "care"? Is it purely in terms of food, clothing and shelter? What about an 'education', not just academically but also of morals and virtues? In fact, what about understanding our own identity? |
