DID YOU KNOW?

Above the vestry door in the church hangs the beautiful red cross. Many members love it, and find it a worshipful addition to our church décor. Where did it come from?

In 1997, Janet Dittrich was on the organizing committee for a Singles Retreat held at Clayton. She was asked to make a cross for a Taize service one evening, and decided to do it in the style of an icon. The crucified Jesus has Mary and the Apostle Peter on either side, with the Archangel above welcoming Him into heaven.

The gold is reflective glitter, and after its application Janet needed to wait for it to dry. In her haste, she overlooked to add droplets of blood to Jesus' wounds, so has resigned herself to 'the risen Lord' look instead.

After its use, it made its way into the back of a vestry cupboard for quite some years, until it was rediscovered by someone cleaning out the rubbish that seems to accumulate in church storage areas. Since then, it's been used for many congregation camps and now seems to have found a more or less permanent place in the church. Thanks Janet!
